Superior Kitchen Faucets at Plumbing Supply Stores?

- The plumber goes on to explain that the faucets provided by a plumbing supply store are superior; while they may look identical, the ‘guts’ of the same faucet are of a higher quality when they come from the plumbing supply store, and less prone to failure. .  For this reason, the plumber will only warrant the faucet that comes from the plumbing supply store, for a much higher price ..More

Poorly Insulated Eaves at Old Houses

- The best approach in these situations is to use an insulation with a higher R-value per inch – specifically, closed-cell spray foam insulation. .  It’s not necessary to have the entire attic lid insulated with spray foam, but having spray-foam insulation installed at the eaves is a great way to help compensate for the lack of space at these locations.  The illustration below, provided by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources, shows what this method looks like ..More

Hot Water Faster

- All I did was install a dedicated 3/8″ water supply line from the water piping coming off the top of my water heater to the kitchen sink faucet.   I’ve cut the total run down to about 25′ by running the line straight to my faucet. .  By installing this 3/8″ water line, I’ve cut the wait time from 45 seconds down to 10 seconds.  The hot water line that feeds my kitchen sink consists of 17′ of 3/4″ tubing, then another 25′ of 1/2″ tubing.   Part of the reason I get hot water so much faster is that the hot water doesn’t need to fill up all of the main ‘branch’ lines to get to my kitchen faucet.  The other reason this works is because a 3/8″ tube has about 25% of the volume as a 3/4″ tube ..More

Low levels of carbon monoxide will not set off UL listed CO alarms

Even at higher CO levels, UL listed CO alarms might take a long time to sound off – long enough for you to start experiencing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning ..More

DryerFlex: A Superior Dryer Transition Duct

-  You can only purchase this stuff directly from their web site, where you might pay more for shipping than you do for the actual product. . My only complaint with this product is that it’s not available  at home improvement stores.  If the manufacturer ever gets to the point of selling this stuff in home improvement stores for a comparable price, there would be no reason to ever buy a different product ..More
